2011: What Have You Done Out Of The Comfort Zone This Year?

It’s almost the end of 2011! I hope that things have been great for you overall this year. The world atmosphere is high and everyone seems excited and looking forward to 2012!

Like always, it’s that time of the year we usually pause for a while and reflect and how the year has been for each one of us – the good, the bad, the bittersweet…

But I’m going to ask you something different: What things have you done out of YOUR comfort zone this year?

If you want to thrive in anything, or as a person or as a team, it means doing things that force you to step out of your comfort zone. If you do the same routine without breaking a sweat, over and over again… no, you’re not getting the same results. Instead you will regress. You either grow or decay; there is no in-between.

At the start of this year, I went from setting “annual resolutions” to chunking my goals into a quarterly basis. I am happy to say that I’ve set out to hit all of them. Yes, ALL. I set goals that challenged me to go out of my norm without being overwhelmed by ‘over-planning’.

Here are a few highlights I’ve done out of my comfort zone throughout 2011:

1. Went to the US (for the first time) for Affiliate Summit West in January!
The long hours of flight was a put off, however what felt discouraging was I tried to apply for a visa to the States almost 5 years ago but it was declined.

Determined to make another attempt, this time I tried the tedious process again… and finally it was approved! I finally met some of the American marketers face-to-face… and for the first time ever!

2. Gym training (9 months and continuing!)
Years of burning midnight oil and slouching at the computer table resulted in fats accumulated at the tummy, and a bad posture. So that decided it. So I went with my personal trainer and I started gymming on the average of 3 times a week.

At the initial stage, I thought of quitting many times when the going got tough but I hung on in the best interest of my long term health. And hey, it’s been 9 months since I’ve started, and I have never felt better about my health and body!

3. Skydived!
On the contrary, I didn’t choose to take part in this extreme sport for the thrills. Ask me just a year ago and I said I will NEVER do it. I am extremely terrified of heights.

So why did I go ahead and risk death from above when I have a whole life ahead of me? For one big reason: I wanted to break my mental barriers. And to be triply sure, I went for it… 3 times! (and I survived!)

4. Travelled to more than 5 different countries! (9 actually)
The past 2 years, I kept telling myself (part of the ‘New Year resolution’ thingie) that I would travel to at least 5 different countries that year. I would wind up going to 3 or 4 tops.

So this time around I was going to stick to what I’ve said and make it happen. And it’s nice to know I outdone my goal this year, and might as well make up for the previous 2 years. :)

P.S. By the way, I’ve bought next year’s calendar and great news: the calendar didn’t stop at 21st December 2012! So happy New Year, 2012 will be amazing… if you choose to make it!

P.P.S. Just a quick and final reminder that my Internet Business Cloning Program has just 1 final slot left and it will close at the turn of the New Year!

Screw “Perfection”, Just Do It!

I had just returned from my vacation in New Zealand two days ago and with all the business ideas and plans written into my trusty ‘old fashioned’ notepad, I’m all fired up!

If you’re a member of Resell Rights Mastery, you will notice the members area layout had changed quite a bit and more features will be added soon.

And in the process, I’m currently cranking out extensions of membership sites and services to aid in your Internet Business projects. Look forward to new developments, my dear subscribers and members!

Now something interesting had been happening every time I had the opportunity to check my emails throughout my trip.

Which leads to today’s topic: PERFECTION.

While I’m used to getting emails like this, there was an unusual volume of it as of lately. The emails are from marketing newcomers with questions along the lines of:

“Is my product good enough?”

“Will this method work?”

“Can you please review this for me?”

“And what if I try this out? What if it doesn’t work? What do I do next?”

If you find yourself asking questions like these often, I’ve got a ‘one answer fit all’ reply: screw perfection, just do it.

Perfection – at least here in the information / digital business – is often synonymous with procrastination.

There is absolutely no such thing as a perfect product, perfect service, perfect software, perfect membership, perfect course, perfect seminar…

Instead, when you look within your computer…

The Windows OS changes every few years. The browser you use is not like what it was just last year. Softwares get patch and updates. Apple has been releasing newer versions of their iPhones, iPads, etc.

When you look outside…

Cars get faster, better and slicker with time. Clothing fashion trends change. You get the drift.

So if a ‘perfect’ product does exist then there won’t be any further need to improve. Unfortunately Fortunately, this spells opportunities for smart entrepreneurs, because there will always be demand for

Better product

Better course

Better service

Better anything!

That said, don’t worry about whether your product is perfect; just make it good enough for your customers. You can always improve it throughout time.

If you find yourself asking too many questions or have many doubts, the best advice I have for you is to act with whatever information you have. RIGHT NOW.

What most procrastinators overlook is their own time. And your time is an invaluable asset.

Case in point: two years ago one of my clients who joined my mentoring program had just too many questions to ask. I could see through his insecurity as he was wondering about problems which either won’t happen or it’s too early to consider.

You know where this is going. I suspect to this day he hasn’t gotten much started, if any at all. Even though he already has the benefit of knowledge most green newbies do not know.

Now take another coaching client of mine, Stanley. For the first couple of months he didn’t get anything solid done.

After a chat on Skype two months ago – essentially just me telling him to DO IT – he finally put his act together for what would be his first online sale.

How did he do for his first try ever?

Here’s a screen shot of his last email to me:

167 sales!

This was a simple product selling at $5.00 and while it’s not much, and a portion of the sales came from help of affiliates, the bottom line is he got started!

I mean, how much money do the rest of the ‘newbies’ make by doing nothing?

This wouldn’t have happened if he continued to sit around and look up to someone else for some security and approval. And I think there’s going to be more in store for people who take that first REAL step like Stanley.

So don’t worry about whether your product is ‘perfect’ yet or if you haven’t got what it takes. Just get moving and trust your own ability that you will know how to respond whenever a problem arises. Start small, grab some audience and gain traction along the way.

I hope this helps you in some way. Next up I’ll be diving into my favorite topic on passive income – it’s been stuffing cash even while I was away on the past two vacations and I’m going to reveal the blueprint soon!

Until then,

Quitters Never Win (Or Really?)

Winners never quit. Quitters never win.

Everytime I hear that cliche, I kinda roll my eyes. “But hey, isn’t it true that winners never give up? And only losers do?”

That’s true in many cases, but it is not the ABSOLUTE truth.

First I don’t deny, and in fact I champion the virtues of not giving up.

However it’s many times more difficult to achieve huge success (namely your Internet Marketing venture) on a one-dimensional will.

Even though I don’t bear a white beard, from my experience success is not owed to a single, sturdy choice a person makes but rather a string of many choices.

Sure, I didn’t quit and hung onto everything I’ve got before I made my first dollar on the Internet many years ago.

Sure, I didn’t resign to defeat when I was thousands of dollars broker and I thought I would never recover.

Yet equally important were some of the critical decisions I made to quit a few things. Namely, one of them was my full-time job back then.

Quitting My Full-Time Job To Start My Own Internet Business

I was with the company for a full year and my boss then promised me a Manager position if I stayed for a few more years. To a boy on an hourly wage, to be able to earn a salary of a couple thousand dollars was BIG money.

Still, I chose to quit my job less than a month after that conversation.

Did that make me a loser?

Well my ex-boss publicly expressed that opinion to my former co-workers. And in my early days trying to make money online (but scored zilch) I was more than half hoping I stayed!

However tide took a turn after I made my first online sale; it was the game changer I was working hard for. It came to a point that I was earning more in a month from my online business than I would have in a year at my previous job! (Nowadays I can trounce that in a week or less)

Had I stayed at the comfort zone of my previous job, I probably would had gone on to become manager in a few years. Make a couple of thousand dollars a month. Perhaps drive a company car. Finish up my 14 day leaves year end for a vacation in Singapore.

… Thank God I quit my job. *pfffft*

When Quitters Are Winners

  • Quitting bad habits like smoking, procrastination and eating the wrong food.
  • Quitting a job that doesn’t pay you well or is holding you back from your bigger goals in life.
  • Quitting a method that produces mediocre results or doesn’t work anymore.
  • Quitting the losing table at the casino and cut your losses while you’re still ahead.
  • Quitting on a relationship that doesn’t help each other grow.

You get the drift.

Being stubborn has its rewards but when applied correctly. What if it doesn’t serve your purpose?

We have been conditioned to think in absolutes that all quitters are losers and people who don’t quit are winners.

I know one absolute truth: Success Is Not Linear.

It has never been a straight line. It involves making a string of collective choices; you will find that giving up some things is as important as never giving up on the bottom-line.

To generate income successfully from your online business – any business – it means you must not give up. (Okay I know that sounds ‘DUH’…)

But it also demands that you make other sacrifices and dropping ‘baggages’ you may feel reluctant or scared to let go at the moment.

It means you gotta quit doing certain things that obviously isn’t having any impact on your income.

It means you gotta quit hanging out with some ‘friends’ who are discouraging you 24/7.

It means you gotta quit that MLM company you’ve been with for 2 years but saw only $15.13 to your name.

And I don’t know where you stand on your current employment… I’ll leave that to your own calling.

Don’t give up on things worth fighting for. And if you want success big and fast, you need to drop as much of your own personal ‘baggages’ as you can afford to let go!
